Last year was for me, about defeating my horizons. Learning about things different from what I had always known and exposing me to things I had never experienced. Moving and college and everything has taught me so much.
And now, this year I want to focus on being better at things I suck at. Like, being sensitive to criticism and second-guessing myself, and not being organized clean or punctual... and so on. So, lively up yourself.

THIS IS OVERDUE
By one day.
But I do everything a little late because I've never been one for time. Today and tomorrow and five minutes from now and ten minutes ago all mesh together and why does it matter anyway?
Today is my best friend Kelsie's birthday!
I mean yesterday was. Samesies.
Anyway, I'm so grateful to have Kelsie in my life and I am SO happy to say I am one of the few people who has been able to truly know Kels and see what a beautiful person she is. She's too humble to ever let you in on it, but this girl is seriously amazing. I remember when her mom left for the army on a mission to Iraq, and Kels came to school every day anyway and managed cheer, AP classes, college classes and smiled anyway, even though it was rough. Then when her mom came back, Kels helped babysit her baby siblings, helped drive them places, etc. ...And she still does it all, while going to school and working two jobs... without ever complaining. Well, she complained a lot, (annoying), but still.
Kelsie, I love you. Thanks for making us laugh when you couldn't even do it for yourself, thank you for never being a victim and staying strong. Thank you for always being yourself and helping me do the same! Thanks for all of the concerts, laughs, and thanks for turning bright red every time we make fun of you. Thanks for letting me make fun of you. Thanks for all of the funny pictures you have supplied me with. Thanks for all of the music you have shared. Thanks for taking me to my first haunted house! Thank you for eating lunch with me every day sophomore year when I was too shy to make any other friends (the days you left for cheer nationals were awful). Thanks for Trevor Hall. Thank you for your honesty. Thank you for love of peace. Thank you for gracing the world with your art of dancing. Thank you for your funny facebook pictures, I get sick of the cute ones. Thank you for coming to church with me every sunday during the winters. Thank you for never coming on trips with Sam and I, and realizing we do not like inviting you on our best friends trips. Thank you for skyping me. Thank you for driving us everywhere. Thank you for giving me dibs on Trevor Hall AND Kyle Beckerman, you da bestest. Thank you for all of the great dance dates we replied to (Jake's was the best, bubble wrap? awful...). Thanks for wanting to go indoor surfing for your birthday, that's rad.

you & your heart
this is my last post for a long time, i'm over blogging for a while, and anyway, my blog is no more valid because jessica-who-used-to-live-in-utah now lives back in utah, and will stay here for the next three months! so here we go.
i am so thankful i was able to leave utah for the last school year and experience life somewhere else, especially hawaii. everyone who is from utah usually says utah is a "special" place, and it is, but i hope you all take some time to explore other places of life. although utah is special, hawaii proved to be equally if not more important to me, and being out there on my own helped me grow and expand my perspective so much. it's been great!
i also want to add that if you aren't happy with your life, i don't think leaving to a different state will automatically fix that. there is a quote that goes something like "if you can't find happiness exactly where you are right now, what makes you think you will find it anywhere else?" and i couldn't agree more. your life is forever what you make it, it is the people you spend your time with, the way you let things affect you. i have fully loved being in hawaii, and though i'm slightly sad to leave my ocean, surf, and friends there, i am equally overjoyed to be back in the place i grew up, with my family and friends who have made my life so beautiful!
so in a recap, here is my life over the last year:
chee :) now i'm planning on spending the summer saving up a bunch of cash so i can go back out and do it again! my plans for the summer go as follows- i'm taking one summer class, working as a cna and maybe working a second job, visiting my ma in galveston, being with my best friends and family, maybe meeting up with that cute guy in the picture above. life is good, i'm good, everything is great, so here's to the last few months being some of the best, and here's to the next being even better.
like the title says: "you, and your heart, shouldn't be so far apart." beautiful advice, because you should always be living side by side your heart. you should always be doing those things that you love, those things that bring you true happiness. we are all adults now and completely have the ability to make our lives turn out however we want them to. why would you ever waste your time on something that isn't making you happy, something you aren't putting your whole heart into? do exactly what it is you have always dreamed of doing. that is all i have ever believed, and i'm doing my best to stay as true to my heart as possible. so with my last piece of ranting advice, stay true to your heart, pick up one piece of litter a day, spread kindness, laugh often, and do what makes you happy.
aloha! :)
